How do I know if coaching is right for me?
Extraordinary performance and life are a matter of extraordinary psychology and mind-set. Life coaching enables you to work on that and to produce results fast. It is in my professional opinion suitable for every person that wants to realize their potential, move to a next level and get some clarity on their goals and aspirations.

To assist you in determining if this is the right moment for you to work with a personal performance & life coach, answer the below:

  • Do you feel that currently you aren’t really reaching your true potential?

  • Is there a gap of where you are now to where you want to be?

  • Do you see your life as busy but somehow dull and unfulfilling?

  • Do you sometimes feel you don’t have the skills, resources or confidence to get to where you really want to be?

  • Do you feel stuck and put off making decisions or fail to stick to those decisions you have made?

  • Are you willing to be accountable for what you desire?

  • Are you struggling to define what you want in the first place?

If you answer yes to any of these questions then coaching can most definitely support you to be the best that you can be.

What IS coaching?

'Coaching' is in it's essence a tool or sets of tools used to empower individuals and help them reach their goals; it is a confidential structured conversation between the Coach and the Client which aims at addressing and improving specific life areas.

During a coaching session your coach will walk by your side to help you reach your ultimate goal and aspirations. They will really listen to you, ask questions, find out what your challenges are and inspire you to achieve what you really want. You will be encouraged to make decisions, take responsibility for these decisions and action upon them.

What IS NOT coaching?

Coaching is not about your coach giving you suggestions or advice for particular actions you need to take.

They are not mentoring or counselling you. Coaching is an empowering method that acknowledges the fact that you are the person who truly knows what's best for you.

If you commence a series of coaching sessions and it is deemed that coaching is not the correct support mechanism for you at this moment in time this will be discussed with you directly to find a suitable solution to support your onward journey.

How does it work?

Different coaches use different models to structure their sessions. A popular model which I also use is the so called "GROW" model which is an acronym for the areas explored:  Goal(s), Reality, Options and Way forward.

This model keeps you moving forward towards your goal. Your coach will be asking you questions, listening to your responses, challenging you whilst all the time remaining non-judgemental regarding the details and not offering you advice.

Additional techniques (such as NLP or Hypnotherapy) can be used in the course of your coaching sessions but those are not part of the core coaching practice and will be discussed with you prior to the sessions

What happens during a coaching session?

In very simple terms you will be guided through a 6-step process.

1.    Review the previous session and the actions that you completed. This is your time to disscuss what went well and what was a challenge. it is your opportunity to share what you think is important.

2.    Set and confirm the goal for the particular session.

This is when your coach will assist in getting calrity on what you really want. Why something is it important or why it isn't...

3.    Where you are at the present moment with this goal
What have you already done? What's missing? What are the blokers as well as the resources available to you? Those are only some of the aspects that your coach will discuss with you at this stage to get to the bottom of the current reality you face.

4.    Consider the options of how to achieve your goal.
This is the somewhat creative phase where you will be encouraged to step a little outside of your usual train of thought.

5.    Create a plan of action that you are commited to and motivated for.

6.    Summarise what has been discussed before completing the session.

Each session will be approaximately 1hr (depending on individual agreements as well). The coach will manage the timing of the session and ensure you gain full value from the session.

Who else will know what has been said?

A coaching session is completely confidential. I agree and comply to the Coaching Code of Conduct which you will find attached and only in extreme circumstances will this confidence be breached. This includes the intent to cause harm to yourself or others or criminal acts.

What does the coach need from me during a session?

To make sure that your time is being well spent with your coach you are expected to come to the session prepared and with a goal/ aspiration/ topic in mind that you would like to work towards.

Preparation is very important for the coaching session so you are encouraged to spend 15 minutes prior to the session taking yourself to an environment where you will not be disturbed to relax prior to the start of the session. You will also need to ensure that you have a pen and paper to hand and any other items that you may think will be useful such as a diary.

I want to start coaching now. What do I do?

We can begin discussing your requirements in a little more depth and find out how you would like to be coached. I will send some pre-work to give both of us a clearer idea of your expectations and then we can agree on commencing coaching.
